Two fraudsters are put in handcuffs: “He must hand over 8 thousand euros and his gold”

The fake policeman scam strikes again. The latest one occurred yesterday afternoon (Wednesday 19 June 2024) in Castrezzato to the detriment of a 61-year-old local woman.

The victim was contacted by a fake policeman who asked her to prepare a sum of money equal to 8 thousand euros and to deliver all the gold objects in her possession to a friend of her son who was going to her house. the woman turned to the police at the local station who immediately took action and awaited the arrival of the scammers.

These are two scammers on the move, a 36-year-old and a 50-year-old from the province of Naples. The two, despite attempts to escape, were arrested and held in the security room of the Chiari Carabinieri Company. Today (Thursday 20 June 2024) they will appear before the Judge of the Court of Brescia for the validation of the arrest with a very direct procedure.

The modus operandi

The modus operandi adopted is almost always the same: an imaginary carabinieri contacts the potential victim by telephone on behalf of a relative who has caused a road accident resulting in serious consequences for another person. The relative, the victim is told in an alarmist tone, risks arrest unless the injured party is immediately compensated for the damage. Once in the presence of the victim, taking advantage of his vulnerability and family affections, the scammer has all the money and valuables that the person keeps at home delivered and disappears immediately afterwards.
