A sad memory that Harry will never forget
Prince Harry confessed of being tormented from a phrase uttered by his father, King Charles, after the accident that killed his mother, Princess Diana, in August 1997. At just 12 years old, Harry discovered the tragic news from Charles himself who informed him that the Princess of Wales had been involved in a fatal accident on 31 August 1997.

Harry remembered the way his father looked at him, an expression he had never seen before. While Charles was telling the young duke about the incident, Harry continued to hope that her mother would be okay and that they would be able to see her soon. “She was taken to the hospital, they will fix her head and we will go and see her. Today. Tonight at the latest“, Harry writes in his book, revealing his thoughts at the time.
The reality, however, was very different. His mother was dead. The words that Carlo spoke later remained indelibly imprinted on Harry’s mind: “They tried, dear boy. I’m afraid she didn’t make it“. These sentences, Harry recalls, marked the end of all hope. “Nothing I said to him sticks in my memory“, he wrote. “It’s possible he didn’t say anything. Harry further shared a painful memory linked to a gift received shortly after his mother’s death. Her aunt, Sarah Ferguson, gave him a small blue box containing a lock of Princess Diana’s hair. Sarah explained that she had cut two locks from Diana’s head while she was in Paris.
