“EXIT Festival: deviations in art and music” continues with the first date of the rich program scheduled for the summer season in the city of Corigliano-Rossano (CS). Friday, July 5, 2024 at 9:30 PM will be In Salzaan internationally renowned trumpeter, will open the dance with his “Homage to Ennio Morricone”.
Salza is an extraordinary musician, one of those talents that the best composers and conductors do not let slip away. Just think of him as a leading performer in about 400 soundtracks, of which only 250 with Ennio Morriconewith whom he collaborated for 35 years. It was in fact 1984 when with “Once Upon a Time in America”, directed by Sergio Leone, Salza began his artistic bond with the Maestro. A fruitful partnership that would later lead them to create the soundtracks for “Cinema Paradiso”, “The Legend of 1900”, and before that, among many others, “The Untouchables”, “A Fistful of Dollars”, “The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”, “Mission”. The Maestro has recorded, among others, with the ČNSO, the Czech National Symphony Orchestra “The Lincoln Letter”the piece composed by Morricone for “The Hateful Eight” di Quentin Tarantinowith which he won the Oscar Award 2016 and the Golden Globe for Best Original Score. Among other collaborations, to name a few, those with Riz Ortolani, Armando Trovajoli, Luis Bacalov, without forgetting the one with Nicola Piovani for the music of “Life is Beautiful”.
Salza performs with his wind instrument in the most famous theaters in the world, with a vast repertoire of classical music and soundtracks. It is no coincidence that critics have defined him on several occasions with the nickname of “Trumpet of Italian Cinema”.
For the audience at the Ducal Castle of Corigliano-Rossano, the melodies that have made an immense contribution to the heritage of Italian and American Cinema will resonate, and it will be very easy to be transported to other places and times: from the boundless prairies of the Far West in Sergio Leone’s films, to the dimension of the small and remote Sicilian province in Giuseppe Tornatore’s film “Nuovo Cinema Paradiso”, passing through the Chicago of Prohibition in “Once Upon a Time in America”.
The doors of the Ducal Castle will open at 20:30 for a open visit to the manor rooms and, after the concert by Maestro Salza, the evening will continue at 10.45pm with “Morricone and the Stars”edited by Menkalinan Astronomers Group. The cultural association, founded more than 30 years ago thanks to some students of the University of Calabria, continues to work together with all those passionate about observing the celestial vault, but above all it disseminates astronomical culture with cultural and scientific initiatives. The invitation, through the use of telescopes, is to take a “star bath” that restores peace and wonder, experiencing it as a moment of curiosity, but also as a form of conscious meditation.
Once again, with the evening at the Ducal Castle of Corigliano-Rossano, the EXIT festival pushes us to discover new escape routes according to different rhythms, choosing the precious architectural assets of Calabria as settings. Stay out. Stay #EXIT!
