Lorenzo Somaschini, the nine-year-old baby rider, lost his life due to serious injuries sustained in a motorbike accident that occurred on the Interlagos circuit, in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Last Friday, during free practice for the Junior Cup, a category that is part of the Superbike Brasil, Lorenzo lost control of his two-wheeler at the exit of the Pinheirinho curve and crashed at high speed. Rescue was immediate and the child was rushed to the hospital where he was admitted to the intensive care unit, but on Monday 17 June his condition worsened suddenly, until he died.

The tragic news arrived with a post on social media from the organizers of the event: “SuperBike Brasil communicates with great sadness and pain the passing of the rider Lorenzo Somaschini on Monday (17/6), at 7.43pm. The Argentinian, native of Rosario , was hospitalized at the Albert Einstein hospital in São Paulo (SP) under intensive medical care and unfortunately could not resist. The organization is providing full assistance to the rider’s family. All members of the SuperBike Brasil team – concludes the post – are shocked from the event and express sincere condolences to all of Lorenzo’s family and friends”
A broken dream
In the community, Somaschini was considered a child prodigy of motorcycling, a talent destined to become an internationally renowned rider. Born in Rosario, Argentina, Lorenzo would have celebrated his tenth birthday in a month. As reported by the local media, his passion for motorbikes began at the age of four, when his father gave him his first mini motorbike. A love at first sight that Lorenzo continued, showing off in various category races. His dream was to arrive in MotoGP, a dream broken too soon, in the famous Pinheirinho curve of the Interlagos circuit.
