More death in the central Mediterranean, off the coast of Lampedusa. Ten corpses were found in the belly of a wooden boat, migrants perhaps suffocated and killed by fuel fumes. Overall, there were 61 people on board – explains the NGO Resqship -: 51 were taken away, two of them unconscious while another 10 were found lifeless in the lower part of the hull. The team also intervened with an ax to access the inside of the boat. Resqship’s Nadir sailing ship was over 100 miles from the Libyan coast, in international waters just over 40 miles from Lampedusa, near the Maltese SAR area.
German NGO: “We are angry and sad”
The day before he had received a report relating to another boat in danger, launched by Alarm Phone: there were 62 people on board who were then entrusted to the coast guard. Nadir therefore continued to monitor the sea until the tragic discovery of the vessel with the 10 dead. The 51 survivors underwent first aid on the sailing ship awaiting their urgently requested medical evacuation. “Our thoughts are with the victims and mourners. We are angry and sad. ‘Fortress Europe’ kills.” This is the accusation of the German NGO.

A body was also on another boat, together with the twelve migrants rescued by the coast guard 120 miles from the coast and taken to Roccella Jonica, but they are feared missing. Migrant boat capsizes off the coast of Calabria, 50 missing and 1 dead
About sixty migrants are missing due to the capsizing of the sailing boat on which they were travelling, about one hundred miles from the coast of Calabria. A merchant vessel came to the rescue of the vessel and subsequently transferred the 12 surviving migrants to a Coast Guard unit which then landed in Roccella Ionica. The body of a woman who died after falling into the sea also arrived in port. The search for the missing people has now been activated, but, at the moment, none have been recovered.
