Italy wins with 36 medals

MEDITERRANEAN CUP 2024

Marco Menchinelli’s Italy wins the 2024 Mediterranean Cup with a large gap over its opposing nations.

The Azzurri finished in first place in the general rankings, after having won both the women’s and men’s rankings, with a gap of over 150 points on Turkey and France.

  1. Italy – 947 points
  2. Türkiye – 761 points
  3. France – 728.5 points

The Azzurri, all boys category, conquered the beauty of 36 medals (16 gold, 9 silver, 11 bronze)showing great individual versatility and cohesion in the relay events.

In the last race session yesterday afternoon, the blue Matteo Busilacchi (Nandi Ars Loreto) swims an excellent performance and is silver in the 1500 meters freestyle with a time of 15:53.50, behind only the Tunisian Rami Rahmouniborn in 2009, who won gold in 15:38.40

Continuing with the competition program, two Italians on the podium in the 200 meter medley thanks to the silver of Sara Esposito (CC Aniene) in 2:21.33 and the bronze of Marta Taddei (H. Sport) in 2:21.47. Excellent performance by the Italians in the pool, in a race fought until the end.

In the men’s field, a victory of character and an explosive second part of the match for Francesco Volpe (Portici) who thanks to the breaststroke and freestyle fractions, respectively swum in 34.97 and 29.90, came back at the end and won the 200 meters medley in 2:06.33, ahead of the second place by only 35 hundredths.

At the end of the day comes yet another gold for the Italian team, thanks to the 4×100 meter mixed freestyle relay team which beat the Turkish team by just 21 hundredths.
