He had caused an accident. Then he ran away, burning a red light and also putting other motorists and pedestrians at risk. However, the person who framed the reckless driver was the victim herself who, immediately after the violent impact, went to the local police station to report what had happened. Thus began a painstaking investigation by the cast, who managed to trace the pirate. What gave a decisive turning point to the search for the pirate, who was also traveling without insurance, were the images from the cameras: the video surveillance system proved to be decisive in the case, thanks to the reading of the license plate. The accident occurred on Friday 7 June in via dei Giovi. The pirate, a young man living in Milan, had done practically everything alone. He was on board a red Dacia Sandero, arriving from Paderno, had overtaken at high speed and had thus hit the victim, an elderly resident of Senago, who was stopped at the traffic lights. His car had been hit by the Milanese, almost entering his side door. A violent impact which, however, did not arouse any concern in the reckless driver who, on the contrary, continued his crazy race, running a red light. Luckily the victim did not suffer serious trauma. Shortly after the impact, he reported the accident and the hit-and-run. However, little information was available. Correct model and color of the vehicle. The cameras in the area came to the rescue as they not only immortalized the dynamics of the accident and the escape of the Dacia, but also allowed the officers to read the car’s license plate and thus trace the driver.

After viewing the images, investigations were carried out: from further investigation into the young man’s position, it emerged that the man was traveling without insurance coverage. For this reason, the man’s driving license was revoked and the Dacia was seized. “The outcome of this investigation demonstrates the importance of the video surveillance system that we have installed in the area”, commented Mayor Luigi Magistro.
