The materialization of the treble. The La Molisana Magnolia Campobasso nursery also achieves success in national concentration 2, an exploit that adds to the championships achieved in the Under 19 (in Battipaglia) and Under 17 (in Roseto degli Abruzzi). Despite losing by two in Turin, the #fiorellinidappello – strong by +13 from the first leg – won the double match with the Piedmontese in the group of a contest, the one played at the Arena, in which they had also been ahead by 28 in the double match, at the moment of Trozzola’s triple, synonymous with the 43-28 during the second quarter.
IN PURSUIT Yet, the rossoblù’s start is not very happy. Turin goes 7-0 in an amen. The Campobasso players don’t find the way to the basket easily, so much so that the Piedmontese team reach a double-digit margin (2-13) which brings them almost in perfect wake. CHANGE OF PACE Torino tries to regain the margin, but an initial break of 9-0 with a triple from Quiñonez and baskets from Del Sole and Bocchetti brings the rossoblù to +7 (28-21). The escape of the #steelflowers knows no stops also because, under the banner of the triples from Quiñonez and Bocchetti and the five points in succession from Trozzola, the rossoblù fly up to five full possessions of advantage on +15 of 43-28. Another triple – in Boraldo’s case – sets the score of the period at 46-38.
EFFECTIVE RESILIENCE Upon returning from the changing rooms, the Piedmontese team tried to get closer with a 6-0 run. Here, however, first Quiñonez and Vitali, then, subsequently, Bocchetti and five points from Quiñonez try to maintain the inertia in the Campobasso home. Torino scores at fifty-six, but Trozzola’s triple and the baskets from Bocchetti and Quiñonez mean that there is a seven-point margin to manage in the 30th minute (65-58).
PASSES AND COUNTER PASSES The Piedmontese try to get back under, but Moffa’s triple and Giacchetti’s basket push the rossoblù away again (70-62). An 11-0 run restores luster to the Turin team who try to maintain their momentum. But it is still Quiñonez who mixes up the accounts. Turin impacts again at eighty. Giacchetti and Quiñonez (a triple which is worth his thirty-fourth point) give further sprint to the rossoblù who, thanks to a triple scored two seconds before the final siren, leave room for their opponents, but can rightly celebrate with their fans ready to cheer, in the last two minutes, to a ‘leaving league leader’.
COACH’S WORD Obviously enthusiastic, with the scoresheet closed, the Campobassane coach Gabriele Diotallevi. «It was a fantastic epilogue. We have made some important steps forward throughout the season and they emerged in various circumstances during this match, albeit with some ups and downs. I think of Moffa’s triple following Quiñonez’s discharge, of Blanca’s three-point shots balanced with her feet, an aspect we focused on a lot during the week, of Benedetta Bocchetti’s new dimension in addition to the three-point shot, of the entries without much more ball-handling by Laura Del Sole or the qualities displayed by Emanuela Trozzola”.
«More generally, however, I am happy with everyone and with how much they have given to the cause. This match closes a mini-cycle. Looking ahead, some of them will take other paths for their senior careers, while remaining with us for the under 19s, but I am happy with what each of them was able to do in this tournament”, he continues. «Thanks to the long work this season, in the last period the quality also had to deal with tiredness, but the girls were able to raise their concentration in the face of the competitiveness of the matches, also managing to control all those factors that they could report to them”, adds Diotallevi. As always against them during the season, the rossoblù had to deal with the zone. «This match-up – comments the rossoblù coach – created some problems for us because we considered having some passing lines free without then going to read the situations. We managed to emerge when we worked outside the games, even if in certain circumstances we were a bit static, but it is a situation that we can fully accommodate, after nine months at a very high pace.”
