“Antonio Tollardo tried to save his parents”

The bodies of Antonio Tollardo, his father Silvano and his mother Carolina De Luca were close together in the corridor of the house in via Fra Galgario in Milan. According to investigators, the 34-year-old tried to save his parents from the fire that broke out in the ‘Ghiani’ garage and invaded their building, killing them.

Antonio Tollardo he had seen the smoke rise up to his apartment in via Fra Galgario, in the Gambara area of ​​Milan, and he was trying to help his parents escape. The carbon monoxide released by the flames that devoured the ‘Ghiani’ garage around 7pm on Friday 14 June, however, had already invaded their home killing them in a matter of minutes. This is one of the first reconstructions made by investigators after they found the body of the 34-year-old lifeless next to that of his parents, 66-year-old Silvano and 63-year-old Carolina De Luca. All three were in the hallwayprobably headed towards the door.

For about a year Antonio Tollardo had been working for Mipharm, a pharmaceutical company based in via Quaranta, in the Vigentino area on the southern outskirts of Milan. Like every evening, last Friday was too returned to the house where he lived with his parents and that he planned to leave soon, once he had raised enough money.

Lately, however, the family situation had become complicated. Her mother, Carolina De Luca, was accusing serious health problemswhich also prevented her from leaving the house independently. Next to her there was always her husband, the now retired former garbage collector Silvano Tollardo, and in the evening Antonio he came back to be with them.

Some witnesses reported seeing the 34-year-old return to the house at approximately half an hour before the fire. Some workers at the ‘Ghiani’ garage were handling fuel when, for reasons that investigators will have to establish, the first flames broke out. Within a few moments, the fire broke out, affecting three floors of the building in via Fra Galgario.

Six families managed to escape, four people were injured and the Tollardo family was killed by carbon monoxide before they reached the door. Once the fire was extinguished, the police seized the garage. The Prosecutor’s Office has opened a case for disaster, murder and negligent fire, investigating the owner of the business, Fabrizio Ghiani.
