Frosinone, 15 June 2024 – In view of the upcoming summer season, the Prefect of Frosinone, Ernesto Liguori, yesterday called a meeting at the Government Palace to define the measures to prevent and combat forest and interface fires that will affect the province.

The meeting, chaired by the Prefect, was attended by the Regional Director of Civil Protection Emergency and NUE 112 of the Lazio Region, the Mayors of the Municipalities where the Mixed Operational Committees (COM), the representatives of the Police Forces and the Fire Brigade, the Bodies owners of roads and infrastructure.

The main objective of the meeting was to implement a joint action plan for the prevention and management of forest fires, which represent a serious threat to environmental heritage and public safety, especially during the summer period.

Prefect Liguori recalled the directives of the Minister for Civil Protection and Maritime Policies, which identify the period of greatest risk for forest fires between 15 June and 15 October. In this period of time, control and surveillance activities of the territory will be intensified, with particular attention to the most critical areas.

The preventive measures identified during the summit include the cleaning and maintenance of vegetation along road and railway sections, the protection of sites of landscape, archaeological and cultural interest, and the updating of civil protection plans by the Municipalities.

The importance of a constant circulation of information between all the subjects involved was also underlined, starting from the alert phase up to the management of the interventions.

The meeting concluded with all participants sharing the need to strengthen a coordinated and integrated approach between the various components of the civil protection system, in order to strengthen the overall response capacity and limit the risks for public and private safety in the event of forest fires.
