TRECENTA (Rovigo) – Il “Friends of San Luca” Committee was received by the General Director of Ulss 5 Polesana, Pietro Girardi.

The meeting took place in an atmosphere of cordiality and in-depth analysis of the central issues relating to Polesine healthcare and in particular the situation of the San Luca Hospital.

After a brief presentation of the birth and purposes of the Committee, more or less recent topics were discussed, regarding what had been discussed and agreed with the previous Director.

Director Girardi, after a brief presentation of the Polesine Healthcare system, its potential and the difficulties of staff coverage (being at a coverage of eighty-five percent of the workforce), went into the specifics of the San Luca Hospital in Trecenta, highlighting some critical issues present in the Community Rehabilitation Hospital. As regards the latter, it should become an excellence of our Polesine area, offering those answers that our province needs and considering the constant increase in life expectancy.

“DG Girardi, anticipating some of the Committee’s concerns – reads the note – such as the Emergency Room, stated that he is building the proposal to strengthen the night hours with the presence of a doctor, in particular to cover when there is an absence of the doctor and 118 who has to go out on a call, with night and holiday coverage.

Regarding the Medicine department, the difficulties of the Head of Medicine during the summer period where infectious diseases are on the increase and the concern of being able to guarantee the occupation of the 40 existing beds and to remodel the organization were highlighted: moving from two occupied petals, to a single petal, with a reduction of 3 beds only for the period necessary to overcome the emergency.

The rehabilitation has undergone greater in-depth analysis, also with a view to getting closer to creating the conditions for completing the coverage of the 26 beds currently available (of which 16 beds are currently occupied), to create the remaining ones to reach the 40 beds, which the hospital records accredit to us. Considering the availability of Doctors and Physiotherapists indispensable to achieve this condition.

It is also necessary to use new methodologies such as telerehabilitation, following those less serious patients at home, to reduce travel and stress for patients, offering them an equally useful service while keeping them in their own homes.

It was underlined that the collaboration of all actors in the field is needed, from staff to trade unions, which is essential to achieve this objective.

The creation of beds was also explored in depth Level 3 neurorehabilitation, which would be a branch that would provide greater specialization and offer a high level of service”.

“We have highlighted – comments the Committee “Friends of San Luca” – the need for greater opening of the clinics also in the afternoon and for a greater presence of specialist doctors; Services that we consider important and most highlighted by users: Lack of service – TSA Doppler ultrasound, visit to the Cardiovascular doctor (currently you have to go to Rovigo); Anti-diabetic Centre: You need to be present for at least 3 days to reduce waiting lists, and the presence of a foot specialist in diabetes would be useful; Radiology very long times: A contact person from the medical management dedicated to San Luca and a contact person for nursing. A very useful and appreciated service are Vaccinations. Since last year, reservations at CUP for the vaccine (Herpes Zoster – Shingles) have been blocked for over 65s and other categories of people. The suspension of the vaccine has created a long waiting list.

For the Trecenta vaccination center, the opening of an afternoon clinic should be increased, with adequate staff for service with the Doctor, to recover and reduce the waiting lists.

The opening of the afternoon clinic would be useful to reduce waiting lists and provide a greater service to users in Alto Polesine”.

The meeting with the General Director concluded with the mutual commitment to carry out periodic checks in reference to the various topics covered, to monitor the implementation phases of the various ongoing projects.
