A 67-year-old Neapolitan woman was hit in Via Argine at the intersection with Viale Margherita in the Ponticelli district and died as a result of her injuries.
The woman was crossing the road when she was hit by a truck driven by a 50-year-old Neapolitan man who presumably, not realizing he had hit the woman, left the scene of the accident without providing assistance.
The role of witnesses in the Ponticelli accident
The presence of numerous witnesses allowed a rapid identification of the vehicle which was stopped while traveling along Via Argine in the opposite direction to that of the accident by law enforcement personnel who intervened following the accident.
The Local Police of Naples Road Accident Unit carried out technical surveys at the site of the accident, acquired images from video surveillance cameras and seized the articulated lorry and subjected the driver to toxicological analyses.
