Sunday 23 June is scheduled 65th edition of the award ceremony of the Far Faentino And Faentino under the Tower which this year will be assigned respectively to Gian Battista Savini (in memory) for “The brilliant professional career that led him to hold prestigious managerial roles in important national, international and representative companies in the industrial chemistry sector, combined with an astonishing passion for music and equally meritorious study, research and dissemination activities, with regarding, in particular, the theatrical genre of melodrama” and to Monica Ferrini for “The admirable ability demonstrated in the diffusion of musical culture as an established professional but especially as a teacher, artistic director and tireless animator of initiatives capable of transmitting the most authentic and profound values of music at all levels”.
The two awards are granted every year by the Municipality, upon decision of the appropriate commission, to those who have acquired, in the case of Faentino Lontano, an sstrong and lasting bond with Faenza, and who has therefore given prestige to the city on a national or international level, and to those who, in the case of Faenza under the Tower, with a spirit of service, have contributed to enhancing the civil institutions, social, cultural economic of the community. For the city of Faenza, June is therefore also the month dedicated to pride, belonging and gratitude.
In 2024, the theme of gratitude will be further represented during the ceremony. One year after the tragic events of the 2023 flood emergency, the administration decided to thank the departments of the police forces and the Italian army who made a fundamental contribution during the emergency and especially in saving the lives of many people from Faenza.
With this in mind, this year, it was therefore decided to include in the Faentino Lontano ceremony aspecial edition linked to the recognition, dedicated specifically to the theme of those who helped the population with an exclusive mention of the forces that made it possible to contain the price paid by Faenza in terms of human lives. A distinction which, for our Municipality, represents the highest form of belonging to the life of the local community. The following will receive the recognition: the Provincial Police Force of Ravenna; the Coast Guard Port Authority of Ravenna; the Provincial Carabinieri Command of Ravenna; the 9th Parachute Assault Regiment “Col Moschin”, a raider unit of the Italian Army (Livorno); the Nautical and Diver Center of the State Police (La Spezia) and the 8th Parachute Engineer Regiment “Folgore”, a department of the Italian Army (Legnano – Verona).
Furthermore, during the ceremony, the Faenza Rotary will award the Environment Award 2024, initiative active since 2016 aimed at citizens or associations that have implemented concrete initiatives aimed at the qualification, in the Faenza area, of common goods.
This is the program for Sunday 23 June: at 9 am, at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter, Monsignor Mariano Faccani-Pignatelli will officiate the religious celebration; at 10, in procession, with the city banner at the head, we will move to the Masini theater for the delivery of the honorific distinctions. At the end, in the Hall of Flags of the Municipal Residence, the ceremony will end with an honorary aperitif for the winners and the Faraway Faentines. The institutional ceremony is open to the public.
