Port of Salerno, Adsp: infrastructure upgrading officially begins

Work has begun to restore the Ro-Ro operation of the Banchina Rossa,
the first of a series of four important construction sites that will strengthen the Campania port in cascade

The AdSP Mar Tirreno Centrale announces new works and interventions in the port of Salerno.

In fact, the works to restore the functionality of the Red Quay of the commercial port of Salerno are underway. The Port System Authority (AdSP) of the Central Tyrrhenian Sea has formally launched an ambitious program of completion and strengthening of the infrastructure of the Campania port, delivering last Monday, 10 June, the first of four important works planned for the port of Salerno . The news was announced by the President of the AdSP, Andrea Annunziata, who will soon announce the opening of other important construction sites.

The works will serve to make ro-ro (roll-on/roll-off) rolling activities more efficient, i.e. the docking of ferries carrying loads on wheels such as cars, heavy vehicles, wagons, goods that do not require the aid of external mechanical means to be loaded. They affect a key area of the Port of Salerno, almost the entire shoreline for a length of 184 metres, close to the yards where the Logiport company operates. Coordinated by the AdSP, the intervention is divided into two phases to ensure the least possible impact on port activities: the first will affect 100 meters of quay and must be completed within on February 23, 2025; the second, 84 meters long, will be completed by on October 27, 2025. «This is a long-awaited and delicate work – states Giuseppe Grimaldi, Secretary General of the AdSP – as on the one hand it will put an end to a long period of prohibition of a quay vital for the functionality of the Port, on the other it will allow, in safe conditions, to start the consolidation of the Ponente pier in the next few weeks, another work financed for 40 million euros with complementary funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan [PNRR]».

The contract is among the interventions entrusted as part of a Framework Agreement for infrastructure works signed with the Consorzio Stabile Grandi Lavori Scrl of Rome, of which the Salerno-based RCM Costruzioni is the executing company. The total cost of the works is 3.6 million euros. The delivery of the works took place in a climate of maximum cooperation between the Port Authority, the Logiport company (concessionaire of the terminal where the works are carried out) and the other port operators.

The other three works that will be started soon concern the Ponente area, the Molo January 3 and the Manfredi Pier. All interventions that will be appropriately communicated as they are started.

«With the completion of the extension of the Manfredi Pier in October – comments Annunziata – a further boost will be given to cruise traffic and tourism in general thanks to the presence of a greater number of cruise ships at the same time».
