PORTO SANT’ELPIDIO – It looks like artificial snow, the kind that doesn’t melt with the heat. It might look like salt, the kind you get when there’s ice on the roads. Instead it is real hail, we are in Porto Sant’Elpidio and the calendar marks mid-June, which is close to summer and the tourist season. Heavy vehicles in action to move the hail (and this gives an idea of how much has fallen) which, 24 hours later, is still found along the streets of the coastal town.

The weather warning had been foreseen for rain: the intensity of the moment led, yesterday afternoon, to a historic hailstorm capable of dumping ice on the ground for 6-7 minutes, causing inconvenience and causing damage to agriculture and property ( read here).
Councilor Aguzzi arrives
The immediate arrival of the regional councilor Stefano Aguzzi has been announced for an assessment of the situation.

Crazy weather
Crazy weather, in just a few minutes this portion of the coast was devastated by an ice storm still visible in drifts almost 24 hours later. The firefighters’ interventions continued throughout the night to deal with the damage caused by yesterday’s strong hailstorm: 55 rescue operations were completed in the Porto Sant’Elpidio area.
