The firefighters managed to access the canal and rescued the two puppies. The operations ended after two hours.

Dog rescue in Palermo

Closed in a bag and thrown into a bin intended for the collection of used clothing. This is what happened to four puppy dogs in Kolbe Streetwithin the Acqua dei Corsari district, a Palermo. The animals were rescued thanks to the intervention of the fire fighters. The images of the rescue were recorded by volunteers in the area, who reported strange noises coming from the metal structure. At the time of the discovery, the dogs were all alive. The conditions will be assessed in the next few hours.

Dogs abandoned in a dumpster in Kolbe street

In fact, it was a volunteer from the area who noticed what had happened, who usually brings food to stray dogs and cats. Hearing noises coming from the dumpster, the woman called 112, thus alerting the firefighters. The 115 teams, who arrived on site, forced the metal structure. Then the bitter surprise. Locked in a leather bag were four puppy dogs. Luckily the animals were all alive, although their conditions will be assessed in the next few hours. A real barbarism for which the councilor of the 2nd District Giuseppe Guaresi is calling for justice. “With profound shock and indignation – he underlines – I bring to the attention of the institutions the serious act of cruelty that occurred today. This act not only represents a very serious violation of the law, but is also a clear sign of a profound lack of humanity and respect for life“.

“We need more controls and cameras”

According to what Guaresi explained to our microphones, today’s incident would not be the first case of animal violence to have occurred in the area. A fact for which he asks for greater controls. “I propose the installation of surveillance cameras in critical areas of the city, such as Kolbe Street and Li Gotti Street. This is to monitor and discourage illicit activities, in particular those involving the mistreatment and abandonment of animals.” While waiting for the controls to be strengthened, Guaresi can only highlight the work of the many volunteers who work in the area. “I want to sincerely thank Ornella Civiletti and the work of all those who every day, within the II District of Palermo and beyond, provide help to our four-legged friends. Only thanks to them, today, a tragedy was avoided.”
