The 37 people, belonging to 15 families, evacuated, following input from the firefighters, following the sewer explosion that occurred in the evening two days ago in Leonforte, will spend another night outside their homes.

The services conference

“Further investigations will be needed to verify the safety of the area and rule out the possibility of a gas leak” the mayor of Leonforte, Piero Livolsi, explains to ViviEnna as he announces the convening of a conference of the services in which the firefighters, Municipality staff, including the mayor himself, Italgas and Acquaenna will take part.

“A crucial meeting – says Livolsi – because here a decision will be made, in short, whether further checks will be needed or whether the families will be ordered to return home”.

Where were the families evacuated?

The evacuated families found temporary accommodation: some were hosted by other relatives or friends, while others went to houses in the countryside. “To tell the truth – the mayor of Leonforte tells ViviEnna – we have made rooms available in the B&Bs but people have preferred other solutions”.

Controls on the water network

Regarding the causes, the mayor supports the thesis announced yesterday. “The explosion, from the information in my possession, should have been caused by an excessive accumulation of biogas, but it doesn’t suit me. If, as is true, this accumulation has occurred, it means that something is not working as it should, which is why we asked Acquaenna for clarification.”
