Bologna, death threats to Borsari: the councilor under protection. “I don’t let myself be intimidated”

Bologna, 23 June 2024 – “The protests are all legitimate. But hateful words, death threats and physical violence are unacceptable.”. Simone Borsari does not remain silent. She doesn’t let herself be intimidated. The other evening, between violence of the writings vomited by anarchists on the walls of the fair area, one was dedicated to him: “Borsari die badly”.

Thursday’s clashes between anarchists and police; in the box, the councilor for public works Simone Borsari

A written in black paint left right there near the house of the councilor for public works, former president of the San Donato district. And towards whom now, as also requested by the mayor Matteo Leporeone will be arranged dynamic supervision. A protection, which is authorized by the Prefecture, which provides for frequent visits by the police near the home and places frequented by the councilorto protect its safety.

“What has happened is very serious,” said Borsari yesterday, who has already gone to Digos, in which he places “maximum trust”, to report complaint. The councilor, in this context of tension which today sees him as a protagonist despite himself, wants to put a definitive word: “Here there is a democratically elected administration – he explains – which is building a public school, in a neighborhood that has a need huge amount of adequate space for our kids. So we are working for the future of our community.”

And the project of new Bestas will help “seriously redevelop the park, bringing in more greenery and more trees”. For this reason, adds Borsari, “we are not intimidated and we will continue to work with passion and determination for our community”.

The mayor immediately expressed “solidarity with Borsari and his family for the intimidation they suffered, and I thank him for the important work he does every day”. According to Lepore, “what is happening to the Don Bosco park for months now it has been the result of a climate of violence aggravated by the compliance on the part of political and cultural areas of various origins”. For this reason, she says, “I demand respect for the councilors of my council, but not only. I feel the duty to ask that they are also protected and safeguarded, because those who do their work for the city every day cannot see their private and family life disturbed by a violent group who exploit the right ecological sensibilities of many people in good faith for political purposes of another nature”. Bologna, says Lepore, “has always had the antibodies to stem political violence in a democratic way and will do so once again”.

In these months of contrasts, as transpires from the Municipality, Borsari’s case would not be isolated. “It’s not the first time they’ve been found threatening writings under the house of councilors of the Council, attributable to the same worlds linked to the protest against the new Besta school – they explain from the Municipality -. On other occasions the interested parties and the administration decided to report the matter only to the competent authorities, without reporting it”.

Solidarity, in addition to Borsari, is expressed by the mayor and the secretary of the Democratic Party Federica Mazzoni and the city clerk Enrico Di Stasi also “to the secretary of the PD club Davide Orsini, Enrico Verdolini, to all the comrades registered there and to the residents of the neighborhood.” Mazzoni and Di Stasi ask that “clarity be made: we are no longer faced with a protest on the merits of where to build the new Besta schools, we are instead faced with a violent political attack, led by a minority, which uses the environment for a battle against the Democratic Party and against the centre-left administration”.
