Petrol and diesel, prices down, Figisc-Confcommercio: Let’s hope it lasts

Eugenio Volpato, president of Figisc-Confcommercio of Vicenza

If this month of June, which on the 21st with the solstice will accompany us into the summer season, has not been very satisfactory on the meteorological front, it is at least proving to be positive on the fuel front: prices at the pump, both for self-service and self-service, are decreasing . According to data processed by Figisc (Italian Federation of Road Fuel Facility Managers) – Confcommercio, from 23 April to 9 June the national average price, calculated on the basis of the MIMIT file of daily prices charged, fell between 6.4 and 6.9 cents/ liter for petrol and between 10.0 and 10.2 for diesel, depending on the refueling method (self or served).

Going into detail, petrol costs 0.7-1.1 cents/litre less than the 2024 average which was 1.999 euros/litre for served and 1.861 for self; as for diesel, the price is approximately 7.7-8.0 cents/liter below the 2024 average levels, equal to 1.919 for served and 1.779 for self.

The saving on a full tank of petrol for a medium-sized car is therefore around 3 euros, a few euros more if the car is diesel. Of course, not a noticeable drop, but at least a positive reversal of trend.

Eugenio Volpato, president of the Figisc-Confcommercio fuel plant managers in the province of Vicenza, confirms this: «The decrease in prices is underway and is essentially due to market dynamics – he explains -. The cost of fuel at the pump reflects with a high direct correlation the trend in prices of finished products, Platt’s CIF Mediterranean, i.e. the “fuel exchange”. In addition to a product supply that may have exceeded demand, statistics show that a different modulation of the gross industrial margin has also occurred in recent months. In these dynamics, we managers of fuel plants, the last link in the chain, apply to the pump the price indicated to us by the oil companies, and which fortunately for end consumers, in this period, is lower than in the past. . We hope it will stay that way for a long time.”

President Volpato then specifies that the price of petrol depends 57.41% on taxes and that of diesel taxes account for 54.33%: «For a more incisive and long-lasting reduction in prices at the pump – he concludes -, it would be enough reduce this percentage, something that until now no Government has ever thought of doing in a stable way”.
