At the end of one of the most spectacular races of the event, Jordan Alejandro Diaz Fortun made a splash by beating the big favorite Pedro Pichardo in the triple jump final at the 2024 European Athletics Championships, currently taking place at the Olympic Stadium in Rome. The three Italians involved in the last act were off the podium.
Spain in triumph therefore with the naturalized Cuban Diaz Fortunwho demolished the staff by improving to the precision of 31 cm and signing a sensational jump on the fifth jump 18.18 (wind -0.3 m/s) valid for the continental title, the Championship record and above all the third overall performance ever just 11 cm behind world record by Jonathan Edwards. A somewhat mocking silver therefore for another naturalized Cuban (in this case from Portugal), Pichardo, for whom the Lusitanian national record set in the second series with 18.04 was not enough.
Everyone else was very far behind, with France taking the bronze thanks to 17.38 (personal best)the Thomas Gogois at the last attempt. Decent but not exceptional race on the Italian front with Emmanuel Ihemeje 7th in 16.92, Andrea Dallavalle 8th in 16.90 (season record) and Tobia Bocchi 11th in 16.18.
