Region, minorities ask for extraordinary council “on the dramatic situation of health in Liguria”

Liguria. “To address the dramatic situation of Liguria’s healthcare system, which needs answers and certainties, the opposition forces in the regional council – Partito Democratico, Movimento 5 Stelle, Lista Sansa, Linea Condivisa and Azione – have today (Wednesday 26 June) filed a request to convene an extraordinary council on the situation of the Ligurian healthcare system. A necessary session, to discuss the state of implementation of the policies envisaged by the Socio-healthcare Plan, to know the indicators of healthcare, socio-healthcare and territorial services, starting from the state of waiting lists and the implementation of healthcare construction projects, through the evolution of the economic accounts of all companies, the ineffectiveness of the regional governance system, up to the impacts on Liguria of the initiatives promoted by the national government in healthcare matters, including cuts to investments and delays in the implementation of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan”. This is what the regional council groups of Partito Democratico, Movimento 5 Stelle, Lista Sansa, Linea Condivisa and Misto-Azione wrote in a note.

“Toti’s legacy on healthcare is dramatic – they explain – no new hospital has been built since the right has been in government; an exploding health care deficit; an increase in the escape of patients who go for treatment outside the region; waiting lists that continue to be unsustainable, with tens of thousands of Ligurians giving up on treatment. A public health system with an extreme shortage of medical and nursing personnel and with extremely fragile local medicine. Finally, a Byzantine healthcare governance model, starting from the failure of ALISA, to mission structures and a system of consultancy, external advisors, control rooms, expensive and useless models without any positive impact on the organization and effectiveness of the system ”.

“This is the picture of public health in Liguria with the right in government. A picture destined to get increasingly worse in this limbo in which the right holds Liguria hostage, to which is added the inability of the council to implement policies capable of managing the right to health”, they conclude.
