Fill the cart with expense for many families it represents a real struggle to the last penny. So, we are always looking for new strategies to save and try to make ends meet without being broke. There are those who prefer to buy non-branded foods and those who, on the other hand, find it cheaper to venture on a 10-hour journey to find products at advantageous prices. It’s what happens in Spain where, at least once a month, dozens and dozens of people from the borders reach Spanish cities to do their shopping and save “more than 700 euros”.

The journey from France to Spain

It is the new Camino de Santiago of the French. Reaching Spain on board a bus, undertaking a 10-hour journey in the company of people who have the same mission. And along the way they do not pray for help from heaven, but rather “pray” to find products that cost less than the brands present in France. At least once a month, as reported by the Tfi Info service, a Marseille a bus leaves and arrives at The Jonqueraa small Spanish municipality. People don’t decide to leave to visit the city, but to go shopping. Starting from supermarkets to clothing stores. A trip that has only one vocation: to save money.

The ticket for the route costs 39 euros and the bus to La Jonquera only leaves on the morning of Saturday and Sunday. Given the great demand, the Protour company has decided to increase departures, adding new stops in France and Spain. A French nurse, whose salary is 1600 euros, left a testimony to Tfi Info: «If I don’t go to Spain to do the shopping, I won’t make it to the end of the month. Here the costs are too high and, between bills and other purchases, it is not always easy for me to make quality purchases. Here, even if they are cheap, the products are good. I happen to save from 320 to 700 euros in expenses.”

A mother also confirmed the discomfort felt by the nurse. «In France I happen to spend more than 600 euros a month on shopping and shopping for my family – she declared – she and, sometimes, I arrive with water in my throat at the end of the month. I am unemployed and we get by only on my husband’s salary. In Spain everything costs less and is more convenient. I happen to fill my cart with cakes, household and laundry products, paying only 300 euros. In this way, I saved 200 euros.”
