Italy confirms itself as the queen of speed also at the European Championships at home in Rome. The two Olympic titles in Tokyo, the silver in the relay a year ago and the European laurel in Marcell Jacobs in Munich in 2022. The sprinter also gives the continental encore at the Olympic stadium, followed by another Italian, Chituru Ali. Jacobs’ gold arrives with a time of 10.02, followed by the Como native at 10.05 (personal record) and the English Glave in 10.06. The Olympian got off to a great start from the blocks and his victory never seemed in question despite him not breaking the 10 second threshold.No muscle pain upon arrival.

“The important thing was the title, I expected a better time”
Jacobs himself has though reassured about his physical condition at the end of the race, reducing the problem he had at the finish line: “Just a little bit of calf strainI felt it at 80 meters and I lost a little speed. I expected a better time after the heat, but the title is more important. Now I have to continue working, I knew I wasn’t in the best condition, the Olympics are in two months and in between there are other competitions to improve. I changed everything in training and it took time to assimilate everything,we can do better at the start. I know there is work to do and this reassures me.” Congratulations also to his partner and rival: “Ali is a giant and will always run faster,I’ll try to stay in front of him as long as I can.”

Ali: “I want to impress at the Olympics too”
Chituru Ali, perhaps the biggest revelation of the Italian evening, is happy for the European silver, but maintains very high ambitions: “I wanted to win, I always want to win, but now I’m very excited and I have to rearrange my ideas for a moment. Having an adversary like Jacobs is a great stimulus, in the future I will try to stay ahead of him. I can’t wait for the Paris Olympics, I want to do something special there too“.
