The polling station doors opened yesterday at 3pm and will close today at 11pm (opening at 7am). There are more than 288,300 eligible Florentines and they are called to choose the mayor and new city council (blue card), the presidents of the five districts (green card) and the European parliament (fuchsia card). Here’s a review of the rules. As regards the vote for the municipal elections, if no mayoral candidate reaches 50% + 1 of the votes in the first round, a run-off will be held. The possible date is set for Sunday 23 June, from 7am to 11pm and Monday 24 June, from 7am to 3pm).

ELECTION OF MAYOR

AND MUNICIPAL COUNCIL

(BLUE card)

How to vote. Three options. You can vote by making an X only for a mayoral candidate indicated in one of the boxes (in this case the vote does not extend to the lists connected to it). You can then vote by making an You can always vote by making an X for a mayoral candidate and simultaneously with another X for one of the connected lists.

The split vote

For voters there is the possibility of giving the so-called ‘disjoint’ vote: that is, it is possible to vote for a mayoral candidate and for a list not connected to him. In this last case, to indicate the preference of a candidate for the city council it is necessary to write the full surname (or the name and surname) next to the list. Up to 2 preferences can be expressed (with male/female gender alternation). Be careful: in this last case described it is not necessary to cross the cross on the list (but by crossing it the vote still remains absolutely valid) because consent will automatically go to it.

When the vote

is considered null and void

If you draw two Xs on different mayoral candidates. If you vote for more than one list for the City Council (i.e. by drawing an X on two different symbols). If you draw an X on the symbol of one list and indicate your preferences for another list. As regards preferences, if two councilor candidates of the same sex are indicated (two men or two women), the vote for the second preference is canceled due to the rules on gender equality.

ELECTION OF DISTRICTS

PRESIDENT AND COUNCILORS

(GREEN tab)

Here are the voting methods for the renewal of the presidencies of the five Districts. The voter can choose the district president directly with an The voter can then give 2 preferences for councilors (second

the gender alternation rule). Be careful: the electoral system works in a similar way to that for the mayor and the city council, with the exception of the split vote and the run-off which are not foreseen for the district.

PARLIAMENT ELECTIONS

EUROPEAN

(FUCHSIA CARD)

The voter can put an X on the list symbol, or, in addition to putting the X on the symbol. The voter can also express preferences on the candidates of that specific list. You can express from one to a maximum of three preferences.

Preference rules

Gender representation must be respected: if more than one is indicated, the names of only women cannot be written

or only men, but at least one

it must be of a different gender

by the other people indicated. Split voting is not possible.
