Blue triumph at the end of the evening session of the second day of the Rome 2024 European Athletics Championships. Italy scores a double in the queen race, the 100 metres: the gold medal goes to Marcell Jacobswho confirmed himself as European champion two years after Monaco and won in 10.02. Silver medal for a splendid Chituru Aliwho sets his new personal best with 10.05 and thanks to a great final progression surpasses the British Romell Glave, bronze in 10.06. Jacobs he may have suffered some physical problems at the end, with a grimace at the finish line and even during the celebrations he seemed a little dark-faced. However, his race remains excellent, the best of the season so far and, with the hope that it is nothing serious, it gives us hope from an Olympic perspective.
THE UPDATED MEDAL CARD
In the semi-finals Jacobs had set the best time with an excellent 10.05, giving up at the end. Second time for Ali 10.11, who therefore confirmed the result also in the final. Roberto Rigali was out with 10.36 and the unfortunate Matteo Melluzzo, who had shown a splendid 10.12 but the race was spoiled by a false start and had to be repeated. The second time the young man from Syracuse felt pain and stopped halfway through the race.
