Last day of school between memories and hopes

Last day of school between memories and hopes

Today is a special day, full of mixed emotions: the last day of school. It is the moment in which greetings are intertwined with memories and hopes look towards the future. It is the day when children’s hearts beat in unison with those of their parents and teachers, aware that an important stage of their journey has ended and new doors are opening wide.

The following is a story of the morning which involved the students of the John Paul II, but we imagine it to be very similar to the morning that many other students experienced in schools in our area. Let it, therefore, be a story shared with and for the entire school community.

This morning, the students of the VD of the plexus John Paul II of Andria crossed the red gate of their school for the last time. It was September 2019 when, still young, they crossed that threshold for the first time, and today they leave projected towards adolescence.

Their path was not without obstacles: in March 2020, the pandemic overwhelmed them, leading to the closure of schools just when they were starting to grow educationally and personally. DAD (Distance Learning) and DID (Integrated Digital Teaching) kept them physically distant, amidst swabs, infections, fears, but also hopes. Hopes of growing together again, which they managed to do with determination and resilience.

Today, between tears and nostalgia, on the notes of the song “Over the Rainbow” and to mother Lella’s cry: “May these children’s dreams come true”, they greeted their last day of school by launching their white balloons into the sky. Only one was red and heart-shaped, that of their curriculum teacher Carmela, who accompanied them for all five years. Today was a special day for her too, her last day as a teacher.

With great emotion, between tears and applause, a beautiful period in the lives of these children came to an end. But the thought goes beyond the John Paul II school: this greeting is addressed to the entire school community and to all the boys and girls who finished school today.

And while the doors of the school close, those of the future open, full of opportunities and dreams to be realized. Today is the last day of school, but it is also the first day of a new chapter. Dear children, continue to dream big and believe in yourself. And you, dear masters, continue to inspire and guide with your heart.

Hello dear school, full of childhood memories! Hi teacher Carmela, we love you! Hello to all the teachers who, like Carmela, will retire and to those who have been retired for some time, but who continue to teach life. Happy journey to all the protagonists of this wonderful adventure called growth and school. Always.
