The number of victims of the tragic road accident which occurred on May 15th in via Sant’Alberto in which the 71-year-old Gabriella Rinaldi from Ravenna lost her life has risen to two. Romeo Giacomoni, the 77-year-old from Ravenna who was in the other car involved, a blue Dr 4 crossover, died at the Bufalini hospital in Cesena, where he was hospitalized in maximum severity. Yesterday the magistrate ordered the man’s body forensic autopsy. Giacomoni’s wife, Giovanna Buscaroli, 76 years old, who was behind the wheel of the car that day, was also initially transported to Bufalini and hospitalized in a coma. In the past few hours the doctors have transferred her to the intensive care unit of the Ravenna hospital.

The victim

Romeo Giacomoni held the role of president of Clt Ravenna Logistica e Trasporti from 1988 to 2012, of which he was later also a member. Today his son Enrico is at the helm of the cooperative. Precisely because of his decades of commitment in the transport sector, Giacomoni was well known and respected even within the cooperative world of Romagna.

The accident

The fatal impact occurred on the afternoon of May 15th, just before 5pm, on Via Sant’Alberto, about one kilometer from the San Romualdo intersection. Two cars were involved in the collision, a blue Dr 4 crossover and a white Nissan Leaf. According to the reconstructions of the incident, entrusted to the findings of the local police of Ravenna who intervened on the spot, the Dr 4 crossover, driven by Giovanna Buscaroli with her husband Romeo Giacomoni on board, was traveling along the provincial road in the direction of Ravenna-Sant’Alberto when, for reasons still being ascertained, it crossed into the opposite lane and collided head-on with the Nissan which was traveling in the other direction. Gabriella Rinaldi, sitting in the passenger side of the Nissan, lost her life instantly on impact, while three other people were injured. The woman’s husband, born in 1949, was driving the car. It was the elderly man who confirmed from the Santa Maria delle Croci hospital in Ravenna, where he was admitted with no life-threatening injuries, that his wife was in the car with him, because at the scene of the accident it was not possible to find the woman’s identity documents, but only the membership card of a sports association.
