GIARRATANA (RAGUSA) – The Carabinieri of Ragusa intervened in Giarratana, where the owners of a house had reported the state of strong agitation of their son who, in the throes of a fit of anger triggered by the abuse of narcotic substances, shortly before them he had kicked them out of the house by attacking them under threat of death, barricading himself inside. The 40-year-old, moreover, only a few days earlier, on May 16, had been stopped without difficulty by the police alerted by the citizens because, in an evident state of alcoholic alteration, he was roaming dangerously through the streets of the town, also causing an accident, fortunately without injuries .
However, the criminal complaint for driving while intoxicated and the seizure of both the car and the driving license do not seem to have been enough to calm his excesses. This morning, in fact, the soldiers who arrived on site with the help of the 118 personnel and the firefighters, decided to break into the house when the 40-year-old, a local criminal but having lived for many years in central Italy, barricaded himself in the house in anger, he began to set fire to the property and the first smoke began to escape from the house.
In the frenetic moments of the intervention, the carabinieri were violently attacked by the man, so much so that it was necessary to use the taser, the electric pulse gun supplied to the police. The man was then handcuffed and the medics were able to proceed to treat him, before accompanying him by ambulance to the Pope John Paul II hospital in Ragusa, where the soldiers themselves also received medical treatment for the minor injuries sustained. Once the medical checks of the case were completed, the man was arrested.
