It’s not every day you come across a kitten just a few days old wandering around your house. But this is exactly what happened to Elizabeth Egeland, a Massachusetts lady who last month found a puppy meowing hungrily in her basement. She had no idea where it had come from so, baffled, she checked the security cameras and discovered the mystery.

“It’s like my Disney princess moment,” commented Elizabeth, shocked to see the closed-circuit video that captured the exact moment a cat enters the house through the basement window holding in its mouth what was most precious: the her kitten. The stray was looking for a safe place to stay while waiting for his return with his food. She had already seen him wandering around his house: you can see that the cat had gone on a patrol before selecting the safest place to take refuge. And everything was even more special when she realized that it wasn’t a mother, but a new father.

Elizabeth was truly moved by so much tenderness: she told her story on Reddit, explaining how honored she felt for the “special delivery” she received. Even more so when she realized how comfortable the tiny cat felt with her. An emotion that led her to officially open the doors of her house to the father cat, Red, and her little one, nicknamed Fluffernutter for his soft and furry fur. We don’t know anything about their past, if the mother cat had a complication and left her puppy orphaned too early, we don’t even know if that is the puppy’s biological or adoptive father. But they love each other, and that’s what’s important.

“Red takes care of him through and through. It’s the cutest thing ever. I’ve never seen a male cat behave like this,” said the woman, who arranged to give the puppy milk. that he needed, despite the commitment shown by his father to wean him. Fluffernutter clings to the bottle until it’s empty, and “likes to snuggle up to me while he feeds.”

Thanks to this extra care, the little one is growing rapidly and is already climbing “anything he can get his claws into.” The little family will soon move to her new home, to Elizabeth’s sister-in-law who has made herself available to welcome the little one while Red will remain in this house, where three other dogs and two cats already live. But the woman will never be able to forget the great emotion of these days: the infinite tenderness that she gave her this puppy in need of help and the great commitment shown by the cat dad. “I will never forget them.”
