THEL FIA World Endurance Championship continues its journey with the third seasonal event, the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps 2024. While waiting for the next race on the calendar, the WEC stopped in Belgium in the magical setting of the Ardennes track. In the afternoon the qualifications who saw it triumph Ferrari 499P number #50 with Antonio Fuoco who conquered the pole position of the race which will start at 1pm on Saturday 11 May.
LHappiness broke out in the Maranello team’s garage, which still had to deal with the subpar performance of the sister car #51 which remained outside the Hyperpole. However, Ferrari’s continuation of the day went even worse. As usual, after the timed session, the cars are inspected by the FIA and Hypercar number #50 was found to be under the minimum weight allowed by the regulations. “After checking the Technical Delegate’s report, the Stewards considered that the minimum weight of the car did not comply with the relevant regulations. Consequentially, the Stewards decided to impose the disqualification of car 50 from the qualifying and Hyperpole sessions and the cancellation of the lap times of these sessions” reads the official press release published by the FIA WEC.
Dtherefore, the Ferrari 499P #50 of Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen will have to start from the back of the Hypercar grid with the Lamborghini LMGT3 of the Iron Dames behind them who are in the first position of the LMGT3 class. The Porsche Penske 963 Hypercar number #5 will inherit the pole position of the Maranello car, qualified by Matt Campbell. Alongside the German LMDH there will be the Cadillac Racing V-Series.R Hypercar number #2. The same fate as the 499P #50 also befell the McLaren 720S LMGT3 Evo number #95 by United Autosports who will thus find himself facing the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps from the last position on the grid.
