Fire in a former school in Frondarola: intervention by the firefighters

TERAMO, – A fire occurred yesterday evening in a building owned by the municipality in Frondarola di Teramo, once used as a school. The flames started in one of the rooms located on the second floor, involving waste materials and various furnishings. The fire generated dense smoke that saturated the entire building, leaving signs of blackening on all the rooms on the second floor, part of the first floor and the stairwell.

A team of firefighters from the Teramo Command promptly intervened to deal with the emergency. The extinguishing operation was carried out with the help of a fire engine, a tanker, an off-road vehicle equipped with a fire-fighting module and a van used to transport the breathing apparatus. Thanks to the effective intervention, the flames were extinguished and the thick smoke was evacuated from the various rooms of the building.

Following the fire, the building was declared unusable, pending further technical investigations and the necessary restoration works. The Carabinieri of the Pietracamela and Teramo stations also intervened on site for the relevant obligations, as well as the Mayor of Teramo, who monitored the situation and the management of the emergency.

Fortunately, the event did not cause any injuries, but it highlighted the importance of checks and constant maintenance of abandoned buildings, especially those in possession of potentially flammable materials. Investigations are underway to determine the precise causes of the fire and to assess any responsibility.
