A 41-year-old woman crashed in the area of the Fly Emotion air rope sports facility in Albaredo San Marco in the province of Sondrio, just as she was flying attached to the rope hanging over the Bitto valley. The woman, of foreign origin, was resident in Oliveto Lario, in the province of Lecco. The dynamics of what happened at the sports facility that takes tourists in search of breathtaking thrills, via a safe cableway, from the town of Bema to the other side of the mountain, suspended in the void, is still to be clarified. At the site of the accident the Areu helicopter, the Morbegno Alpine Rescue, the firefighters and the carabinieri.
The victim’s body was recovered
The men of the Alpine Rescue of the VII Delegation of Valtellina and Valchiavenna and of the Sagf-Alpine Rescue of the Financial Police have completed the recovery of the lifeless body of the forty-one year old. The woman apparently fell from a height of about 50 meters when she was near the arrival station of the cableway after the aerial crossing from Albaredo, on the other side of the mountain in the Orobie Alps.
A crash at 120 kilometers per hour
From what we have learned, the woman, having reached the maximum speed – around 120 kilometers per hour – and now almost at the end of the route, slipped out of her harness and crashed at a height of twenty metres. In fact, it seems that the harness remained hanging from the zip line, but it is not yet clear how the woman got out of the safety system that kept her hanging from the rope. According to one of the hypotheses now being examined, the woman felt ill a few meters from the arrival station, perhaps due to a heart attack. And for this reason she allegedly made movements that led to her fall. The Sondrio Prosecutor’s Office will carry out checks on the harness worn by the woman: to be evaluated, the investigators report, even if the victim of the accident had worn it correctly.
