Starts today “G7 Environment, Energy and Climate” in Turin, in the evocative setting of the Royal Palace of Venaria. Also at the table are the European Commission, various international organisations, the presidencies of Cop28 and Cop29, Brazil which will direct the work of the next G20 and Mauritania, which has the rotating presidency of the African Union.

This is essentially the first test bed after the COP28 failure in Dubaiwith countries having to demonstrate how in practice they will keep their commitments in Dubai and how they plan to support their transition. The risk for Italy is to dedicate too much attention to technologies that are marginal or absent in our system.

And indeed there is no shortage of controversy, reflection of a global debate on the environment and energy. The anti-G7 demonstrations saw the participation of around a thousand citizens concerned about current environmental policies and the consequences on daily life and the planet. The protests included roadblocks and slogans against insufficient or harmful ecological policies.
