Naples, “Restoration meeting” and Davide Sampaolesi award –

The “Davide Sampaolesi” award will be awarded on the occasion of the VIII edition of the “Meeting on Restoration” study day

Naples, 16 May – Tuesday 21 May, in the church of SS. Trinità of the Most August Archconfraternity of the Pilgrims in via Portamedina alla Pignasecca, starting at 9.30 am and closing at 5 pm, the eighth edition of the “Meeting with Restoration” study days will take place, organized by the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the municipality of Naples in collaboration with the Archconfraternity of the Pilgrims and with the participation of the restoration courses of the Academy of Fine Arts and the Suor Orsola Benincasa University, coordinated respectively by Giovanna Cassese And Pasquale Rossi.

Officials of the Superintendency, restorers and other professionals active in the planning and execution of interventions on the city’s cultural heritage will present some of the most significant restoration projects carried out in Naples in recent years. The works will be introduced by Giovanni CacacePrimicerio of the Archconfraternity, and by the ABAP Director General of the Ministry of Culture, Luigi La Rocca. The “Meeting on Restoration” project, curated since 2016 by the officials of the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the municipality of Naples, is aimed at studying and disseminating restoration activities in Naples and is aimed in particular at university students of restoration, archeology and art history courses, but also to those interested in following the protection and valorization activities implemented by the Ministry of Culture.

The initiative includes a series of events aimed at disseminating knowledge to a wide audience of the recovery activity of the city’s archaeological, historical, artistic and architectural assets and the conservation techniques with which these interventions are conducted. During “Meeting with Restoration” study day – VIII edition, the “Award” will be awarded for the third consecutive yearDavide Sampaolesi”, which the family members of the young restorer, who died prematurely on 7 October 2019, are announcing for the best thesis on the restoration of assets from the Campania context discussed in the last year; the award jury is made up of officials and former officials of the ABAP Superintendencies for the municipality and the metropolitan city of Naples.

The award is intended for authors of a master’s degree thesis, concerning the conservation and restoration of historical-artistic and archaeological assets from Campania contexts, who graduated from recognized Italian institutes, in the academic years 2021/2022 and 2022/ 2023. There are ten finalists for the 2024 Davide Sampaolesi Award, selected by the jury chaired by Annunziata DalconzoRestoration Officer, and made up of Art History Officers Alessio Cuccaro And Palma Maria Recchiaby the Restoration Officer Barbara Balbi and by the archaeological officer Raffaella Bosso, these are the names: Cammarota Alice, Esposito Federica, Levrieri Eleonora, Marra Maristella, Piezzo Federica, Ranaldi Renata, Saltarelli Chiara, Sisto Antonella, Squarciafico Claudia and Vallefuoco Claudia. The 10 finalists will be presented at the award ceremony and will also receive a selection of recent publications relating to restoration sites.
