The motor ship Audace risks sinking off the coast of Grado: 76 passengers rescued

The boat Bold left this morning from Grado and headed for Trieste, before arriving in Monfalcone, it launched an emergency call due to risk of sinking. From the first information gathered it seems that the motor vessel was taking on water.

The alarm

The alarm went off around midday. They were on board 76 passengers, who were immediately transferred with rafts to the patrol boats of the Port Authority and transported safely to the Torpedo Boat Pier in Grado, where they are arriving. The entire Golden Isle mobilized to welcome the passengers, including many foreigners.

Ambulances waiting in Grado (Bonaventura)

Several ambulances also arrived at the Pier as a precaution. From what appears, in fact, fear aside all passengers are fine and no one ended up in the water.

Also the crew was entirely saved. The last to get off was, as usual, the commander.

The mobilization

All the services from Trieste to Lignano of the Coast Guard, the Financial Police and the Fire Brigade are on the field together with the Technical Nautical Services to manage the emergency. A Coast Guard Manta aircraft is also flying over the area.

The Audace is still in a buoyant condition and now operations are being prepared to bring it back to land.

The ship’s numbers

The Trieste-Grado line is a rather busy line. Here, for example, is data from the year 2023 (when the service was carried out with the motor ship Adriatica): from 13 June to the morning of 14 August, there were a total of 15,915 passengers.

The motor vessel Audace, which replaced Adriatica, was launched in June 2023 at the Studioplast shipyard in Lughignano (Treviso). 22.50 meters long and 5.5 meters wide, it can carry 200 people seated, 120 in the covered cabin and 80 on the panoramic deck. And it also has room for 30 bicycles.
