Explosion in Suviana, the truth of Bargi from injured people and black boxes

Bologna, 18 April 2024 – They were there two Scada plants at Bargi power station. One recorded the information of the first group, that is, the one that had completed the testing successfully; the other was at the service of the second group, the one destroyed in the disaster of 9 April. If any discrepancies arise among the data stored in these ‘black boxes’literally Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition, could tell a lot about the genesis of the Suviana tragedy, which led to the death of seven workers.

The technicians who will be appointed by the Prosecutor’s Office they will have to establish this: what Scada recorded of the second group, if something has remained imprinted in his memory. And, in case, compare the data to those contained in the first system. A technical investigation workwhich will then be crossed with the stories provided by workers and managers who in recent days are giving their testimonies to the Carabinieri of the Investigative Unit and Nil and to the staff of the Occupational Medicine of the Local Health Authority. Among these, in addition to the workers who remained unharmed in the tragedy and the Suviana unit manager Simone De Angelis, the coordinator for the planning and execution of the works at the plant, Luca Lenzi, was also heard.

Everyone called to tellby their role and sector, the work they did for the Enel Green Power plant. Workers inside the site in particular, both those who remained unharmed and the injured, who in these hours are starting to give testimony as people informed of the facts before the police, will have to be the eyes and ears of the investigators, to allow them to go back to the moments exactly before of the explosion.

To define, exactly, what happened. The bodies of the victims recovered by the rescuers, the wounds of the workers who made it, speak of bodies tortured by fire, not detonated by an explosion. And the hypothesis that emerges at the sight of those poor remains it is as if the workers were hit by a powerful flame. And then from the boiling and toxic oil, released from the bearings full of lubricant. The heat, the fuel, would then have triggered the explosion, with such violence as to shoot tons of metal pieces like bullets into the walls of the power plant, to damage the bulkheads, to cause three floors of the site to end up under water. But any reconstruction, at the moment, is premature. The details that the wounded will tellthe noises they heard, every anomalous element they noticed before hell will be one more piece until the truth is reconstructed.
