“The concerns expressed in recent hours by some associations and other subjects regarding the inter-ministerial table on the use of hormone puberty blocking drugs in the treatment of gender dysphoria in minors are completely unfounded”. The ministers of Health and Family, Orazio Schillaci and Eugenia Roccella, declared this in a joint note. “The journalistic reports on the Careggi case, with the subsequent parliamentary questions and the consequent inspection, and the changes of direction by other countries that had promoted extensive use of these drugs and are now reviewing their positions – say Schillaci and Roccella – have made not only necessary, but also urgent, a survey of both the scientific literature and the procedural, regulatory and possibly legislative changes that have occurred abroad, also reported in parliamentary documents such as those of the Honorable Zanella and Madia. This survey, entrusted to experts with high and recognized scientific qualifications, will be able to provide cognitive elements to guarantee minors and the adequacy of therapeutic paths, elements that we are certain are important to everyone. This is – conclude the ministers – a technical-scientific work and not an association consultation, so no ‘exclusion’ can be complained about and even the methodological disputes are totally groundless”.
