An hour and a half alone. Stefano Bonaccini and Elly Schlein met yesterday morning in Rome to address the issue of the lists for the European Championships. At the end of the face-to-face meeting, a very concise note: «Positive meeting. We work together on the lists.” Nothing has been decided, but the impression is that there is agreement on one point: if Bonaccini decides to run in the EU he will do so as the leader. In any case, any decision will be taken “together”, underlined by the Nazarene after the rumors that Roman Annalisa Corrado, responsible for the environment in the national secretariat, was leading the North East constituency.
The Corrado idea, which had been circulating for days, suddenly lost steam yesterday morning, while the Bonaccini-Schlein meeting was confirmed. The governor made it clear during the conversation that if the Democratic Party asks, he is available to run and leave his region before the end of the legislature, despite many mayors asking him to stay. But he also added his fears: running in the EU could give vent to the controversies of the right and complicate the Regionals in Emilia-Romagna, which should then be brought forward to November. A reasoning with which the Nazarene seems to agree. With these premises, if Bonaccini decides to run, he will still do so at the top of the Democratic list. Moreover, the scheme of a civic woman as head of the list is a framework that the organization manager Igor Taruffi himself defined as “tendential” in the national secretariat: that is to say, it may not apply everywhere.
However, the overall agreement is not yet closed, despite the pressure of the Dem leaders and the mayor Matteo Lepore himself, who rushed to Rome yesterday morning: «Schlein and Bonaccini must decide the lists together and they must be ready after Easter because they must start campaigning.” However, many issues still remain to be resolved. In particular, we need to quell the discontent of dem women. The Bonaccini area is in fact asking to protect the candidacies of some outgoing MEPs: in the South, where Pina Picerno risks being crushed between Lucia Annunziata in the list and Schlein herself, and in the North West, where Irene Tinagli could end up in the “sandwich” . This is why the Schlein-Bonaccini negotiation is not closed. Although as far as Emilia-Romagna is concerned the boxes seem defined. If Bonaccini is at the top of the list, followed by Schlein, there will be room for Elisabetta Gualmini, Giuditta Pini from Modena, Antonio Mumolo from Bologna and Alessandra Moretti and Alessandro Zan from Veneto. It remains to be seen whether the outgoing mayor of San Lazzaro Isabella Conti will run. The calculations will be made in the next few days, when Schlein and Bonaccini plan to meet again.
