Night hunting in Abruzzo: rules and recommendations to follow

The Abruzzo Region recently issued a note regarding the methods and equipment recommended for night selection hunting, in line with the Regulations for wild boar selection hunting (DGR343/22).

It is essential for hunters registered for the selection to scrupulously comply with these regional provisions and ensure that their weapons are calibrated correctly. It is mandatory to calibrate your rifles equipped with optics, viewers or light sources, especially if you intend to practice selection hunting between one hour after sunset and midnight.

The calibration must be carried out so that at least 4 out of 5 shots hit a fixed target of 15 cm in diameter located 100 meters away and must be certified by a Director or shooting instructor at an authorized shooting range or range.

Furthermore, the Region underlines that according to the Regulations, during night selection hunts, the hunter authorized to harvest must be accompanied by an unarmed selector authorized in the competent territorial area. This measure aims to ensure the safety and proper conduct of hunting operations.

Regulation of nocturnal hunting is essential to preserve the ecological balance and mitigate the damage caused by the overpopulation of some species, such as wild boar. However, it is equally important that this activity is carried out in compliance with regulations and recommendations to ensure the safety of all participants and the well-being of local ecosystems.
