The municipal administration of Bomba has asked the Ministry of the Environment to immediately reject the application for the extraction of gas from Lake Bomba and invites the scientific director of the study commissioned from the University of Annunzio Chieti-Pescara, on the situation hydrogeological nature of the places affected by the project, to illustrate to the population the results of the activities carried out in the area.

“The cultivation permit for the field has always been rejected due to serious hydrogeological risks – reiterate the mayor Raffaele Nasuti and the municipal administration of Bomba – LnEnergy, ignoring history, presented the fourth natural gas extraction and refining project in January not dealing with the topic, postponed to the presentation of a study by the end of March”.

Regarding the gas extraction project, the Via subcommission of the Ministry of the Environment, in opinion no. 601 of 14 November 2022, requested the production of new and updated experimental data on many topics and in particular on the hydrological and geochemical characterization of the water environment and on the consequences of induced seismicity events.

“The proposing company – recall the directors of Bomba – despite the explicit recommendations, in January presented a new assessment of the environmental impacts in which it does not delve into the requested topics and postpones the discussion of the hydrogeological and seismic aspects, topics which have always advised against exploitation of the deposit and were the main cause of the rejections of previous projects, to a document to be presented by the end of March. The US company has been working on this issue since 2004 and has not been able to develop serious scientific studies that exclude the risks associated with subsidence and seismicity induced by gas extraction. Field activities in the months of January and February were conducted by researchers from the University of Annunzio Chieti-Pescara, but to date the document has not been presented”.

The municipal administration of Bomba has requested, by sending a certified e-mail to the Ministry of the Environment, the immediate rejection of the ‘Small scale Lng plant Colle Santo gas field – Concession for the cultivation of liquid and gaseous hydrocarbons on the mainland called Colle Santo’ project for “the inadequacy of the documentation presented which does not allow a serious assessment of the environmental impacts and the failure to present the document on the main risks connected to the construction of the work”.

Mayor Raffaele Nasuti, considering the hydrogeological risk situations that characterize the territory and the presence of landslides around the large artificial reservoir for the production of hydroelectric energy, publicly invites Professor Miccadei, scientific director of the studies carried out, to Bomba to illustrate the findings of particularly interesting activities carried out regardless of the gas extraction project.
