Palermo embarrassing, Serie A is a mirage –

It’s not so much the defeat but the journey. It’s not so much the incomprehensible game or the tactical choices but the commitment. It’s not so much the inability to make a moment that is more black than pink go the right way but the absolute absence of determination aimed at wanting to win. Palermo doesn’t deserve all this. And by Palermo we mean the entire city, not just the fans who have subscribed convinced they see a team determined to reach their Serie A goal. Determination that seems to be missing not only on the pitch but also off the pitch.

Already in unsuspecting times, on the wings of the enthusiasm of Ranocchia’s flashes which had given verve to the eleven of the then coach Corini, a lack of a technical project adequate to the objective was evident, in addition to the deficit in consistency of results and fluctuating commitment from the players. From coming close to second place in the daring draw in Cremona to today’s defeat in La Spezia, almost everything has changed but not the feeling that this long-awaited promotion is a distant chimera. The change of coach did not bring the desired results: three draws and two defeats with the risk of leaving the Play-Off zone or participating starting from a too disadvantageous position. The team on the pitch is weak and the only reactions are the result of the frustration of players more looking to argue with their opponents than to show determination and courage to win. At management level, more thought was probably given to satisfying the fans’ discontent with a change of coach than to looking for a coach capable of injecting the players with that desire to sacrifice themselves on the pitch and give more than they have. Mignani is failing as spectacularly in this as his predecessor.

The players remain primarily responsible on the pitch as the management is off it. Palermo is embarrassing, it’s ugly to look at. Simply depressing. A combination of inability and lack of personality that does not reflect the city at all. Anyone who decides to invest in Palermo knows that he must first face people’s expectations. Expectations fueled by the coat of arms of an Ownership that has promised (judiciously) but which risks seeing the fans disaffection from the project. In short, it seemed like they were the Three Kings with Serie A as a gift but at the moment there are no stars but only a crumbling Palermo.
