A meaningful ceremony took place this morning at the Cathedral of Salerno, where the Police Commissioner Giancarlo Conticchioaccompanied by the Chaplain of the State Police Don Giuseppe Grecohanded over to the Metropolitan Bishop Monsignor Andrea Bellandi a bottle of Capaci oil.

A symbol of rebirth and hope

The oil, produced by the association “Quarter Savona 15” In the “Garden of Memory” of Capaci, the place where the judge lost his life on 23 May 1992 Giovanni Falcone and his escort, represents a symbol of rebirth and hope in the fight against the mafia.

A gift to all Italian Dioceses

The initiative, promoted by the State Police, has the aim of donating Capaci oil to all Italian Dioceses, so that it can be consecrated and used during the liturgical year.

With this gesture we want to remember the innocent victims of the mafia and reaffirm our commitment to the fight against this criminal phenomenon“, declared the Commissioner Giancarlo Conticchio.

The commitment of the Church

Monsignor Bellandi thanked the State Police for the gift and underlined the importance of the memory and of the common commitment to fight the mafia and build a more just and peaceful society.

Capaci oil in the other dioceses of the province

The Capaci oil will also be delivered to the other Dioceses of the province of Salerno and will be used on the occasion of the Chrism Mass, a particularly important Eucharistic celebration which takes place every year on Holy Thursday.
