In previous editions, protagonists such as Luca Parmitano (astronaut), Luca Mazzone (multiple Paralympic handbike champion) and Commander Alfa (founder of GIS), met students and families.
Friday 12th and Saturday 13th April the appointment with comes back “Testimony for life” for the fourth edition, the creator Stefano De Bonisthought of involving the multiple Muay Thai world champion, as well as actress and model: Chantal Ughi (photo).
Chantal was born in Milan where she works as an actress, vocalist, model and author of various video clips; you shot films San Giovanni Rotondo, “Testimony for life”: meeting with Chantal Ughi for Peter del Monte, Citto Maselli, Giuseppe Piccioni. After studying in London at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts she moved to New York where she starred in the film “The Big Apple,” which won the audience award at the film and video festival in Las Vegas. In January 2008 she decided to move to Thailand to make a documentary on the women who practice Thai boxing (Muay Thai) in a prison in Chiang Mai. In Thailand she becomes passionate about Muay Thai and stays there for 5 years. In the film “Ciao Amore, I’m going to fight” Chantal tells the story of her sporting life; the film is a docu-drama that has won numerous film festivals around the world, including the Bologna Biografilm Festival, the Mexico City Film Festival and was nominated for the Nastri D’argento.
A testimony for life to convey a single message: “sport has the power to strengthen the individual and build a better society in an era of true social emergency, we really need it. It is sincerely hoped that martial arts, as suggested by Susanna Tamaro to the minister of public education, will enter public schools”.
In the city of San Giovanni Rotondoafter the school tour scheduled for Friday 12th and Saturday 13th April, from 9am to 1pm, the stage with the athletes of the Muay Thai School of the “Gold Center Club” Sports Centre, the champion will also meet the young patients of the pediatric oncologyon the afternoon of April 13th, for a few months now, every Saturday they too have been practicing some martial arts exercises (conscious breathing, meditation) with the global organization Kids Kicking Cancer – to donate a key ring glove in order to encourage them to fight to win their most important battle.
The final stage is scheduled for Saturday 13 April at 6 pm, in City Palace where, after the greetings of the mayor Michele Crisetti and the sports councilor Lucia PalladinoChantal will meet the families – the meeting will be moderated by the journalist Giulio Siena – to explain, together with the child neuropsychiatrist Michele German, the fortifying effects of the Thai national sport: Muay Thai; oriental sport arrived in San Giovanni Rotondo for the first time in 1997 thanks to Stefano De BonisMuay Thai teacher with Body Guard experience alongside numerous VIPs (Pavarotti, Sting, Jon Bon Jovi etc) with a past rich in sporting competitions in various martial disciplines (in 1992 he won the title of Italian Kung Fu Champion in Naples with maestro Aldo’s Oriental Sport school Finishwhere he began practicing martial arts thanks to his close friend Gino Lalla) and student of the great Modenese Muay Thai master Michele Heralds. Muay Thai will soon be part of the Olympics.
