Road accident in Vasto (Chieti), three dead including a 15 year old: who are the victims

Dramatic awakening for Vasto after the tragic road accident in which three people died, including a 15-year-old. The head-on crash, which occurred for reasons under investigation by the police, was between a Jeep Renegade, which then went off the road, and a BMW Coupé which ended its run against the guard rail. The vehicles crumpled. Paolo Marchesani, 51 years old, and his niece Martina Mancini, who died instantly, were traveling in the first car.

Also on board is the daughter, a minor, who is hospitalized in the “San Pio” hospital and who underwent emergency spleen surgery during the night. She suffered polytrauma. The man’s wife and mother of the girl were also in the car: she was taken to the emergency room because she was in shock and suffered a minor head injury. The decimated family went to a birthday party in the village of Cupello (Ch).

On the BMW, however, was the restaurateur Dante Carpi, 58 years old, owner of “La Barcaccia” in Vasto Marina. He was killed in the violent impact. He was with his little son, 11 years old, unharmed. The firefighters, the carabinieri and police and 118 intervened on site for the rescue efforts, which continued for hours.

Martina Mancini attended the “Mattei” high school in Vasto. “The Mattei community is in mourning – the school writes in a note – Martina, our Martina flew to heaven following a tragic accident. And one of our students, Samuele, lost his father. It’s hard to simply think how things like this can happen, to imagine that at 15 years old one’s life could be cut short. And you can lose a father. As headmaster of a community made up of boys and girls who laboriously try every day to build hopes and projects, I feel the duty to bear witness, every day, to a life made of joy but also full of pain. I feel the need to bear witness to a further hope that must never give up. Martina will remain, forever, one of us. For those who believe, Martina will remain in our prayers. My and our hug to the family, to the parents. We will always be close to our boys.”
