The email service provider site Yahoo Mail is having problems all over Italy. Various reports, coming mainly from cities in the Center and North, indicate a malfunction that does not allow users to access their inbox and carry out the regular operations of sending and receiving emails.
The problems began shortly before 8am and then increased throughout the day. The site team got to work and would resolve the fault around midday. Reports have dropped significantly since the peak that occurred around 9:30.
Yahoo Mail down in the morning: the reports
The Yahoo Mail website, which manages an important email service used by many Italians, experienced some problems during the morning of June 26th. Since just before 8 in the morning Some users have reported problems accessing and using the site, which was therefore unreachable for a large part of its members.
The main problem encountered concerned precisely the login. About half of the reported cases involved an issue that prevented access entirely. Even when the user managed to access their email inbox, however, the site was very slow and the connection to the servers was sometimes complex if not impossible.
Shortly after the first reports, the Yahoo team took action to repair what happened and restore the service: “We’ll be back soon. Our engineers are working as quickly as possible to resolve the issue. Thanks for your patience” was the message that appeared on the white loading page that popped up to anyone who tried to access the Yahoo email in those hours.
The reasons for the Yahoo Mail crash
The disruption lasted about two hours. After the peak, which happened around 9:20 in the morning, reports have in fact dropped rapidly, as indicated by the Downdetector website, which collects this type of complaint and extracts useful statistics to understand the situation of a crash of websites or telephone networks. The action of the Yahoo team was therefore sudden and brought the situation back to total normality by 12:00.
The problems did not occur equally throughout Italy. Always according to the data collected by Downdetector, it would be the cities of the Center and those of the North that were most affected by the crash of the Yahoo Mail systems. Above all, the urban centers in which the majority of reports were concentrated were Rome, Milan, Turin and Perugia. However, there are few or no reports coming from Southern Italy.
Although it caused several problems in the morning, it is not clear what the origins of the problem were that made it impossible to access Yahoo Mail for a few hours. However, the solution was very quick, given that by 12:00 every type of problem seemed to be solved. It could therefore have been a simple technical fault that led to the temporary inconvenience and which was resolved in a relatively short time. However, there were no reports of possible criminal activities or hacker attacks at the origin of the crash.
