Metacritic is the well-known site that aggregates reviews dedicated to various products in the entertainment industry, including video games. The portal has drawn up the ranking of the titles that have obtained the “GOTY” on the portal from 2000 to 2023.
Starting from 2000, the year of the victory of the original Perfect Dark, up to 2023, which saw the triumph of Baldur’s Gate 3, we obtain through this list an overview of the games most awarded by critics gaming for the last 23 years. These are the criteria and rules according to which Metacritic created the list: Game of the Year winner has the highest Metascore; games must have at least 7 reviews from professional critics; for titles published on multiple platforms, only the version that receives the highest total number of reviews is eligible; it must be a “new” game: if the same title was published the previous year for other platforms, it is not eligible; multi-game compilations, expansion packs/DLC and Definitive/GOTY editions are not eligible; Mobile games are not eligible.
