Sony stops sales in some countries, Steam refunds after 2 hours of play

In the last few hours there have been important developments on the Helldivers 2 case, which saw Sony imposing the registration of a PlayStation account on PC several months after the original launch.

A good part of PC users did not look favorably on the obligation, despite it having been in the air since the game was published. In fact, on the Steam page, the requirement has always been clearly indicated and its implementation had been postponed due to technical problems resulting from the enormous and unexpected amount of players that crowded the Helldivers 2 servers at launch. Next to those who don’t wants registering a PlayStation account is also there who does not can to do it: In some countries such as the Philippines, Kazakhstan and several African states it is not possible to register a PlayStation account even though it is possible to purchase Helldivers 2 on Steam.

Yesterday we were wondering how Sony would deal with this delicate situation and a few hours ago it began to act. As? Stopping the sale of Helldivers 2 on Steam in countries where you cannot register a PlayStation account. This was noticed by SteambDB, a portal that constantly monitors all changes in the Steam database. As you can also see by heading to this address, Sony has stopped selling Helldivers 2 on Steam in 177 countries. Evidently, the Japanese company does not intend to change its mind on the obligation, which will come into force from tomorrow 6 May for new buyers and from 4 June for those who have already purchased Helldivers 2 in recent months.

Meanwhile, Steam has started issuing refunds to players who are requesting it complaining about the need for the PlayStation account. Judging by the reports available online, they are receiving a refund even users who have well exceeded 2 hours of gameplay, a threshold beyond which in normal conditions Valve would not offer any compensation. Among the screenshots circulating online, there is also that of a refunded player with more than 225 hours of play!
