Comparison between the mayoral candidates: three attacking Costantini – Teramo

GIULIANOVA. The spotlight is on the electoral challenge for the renewal of the Giulianova municipal council: it was a television debate characterized by a polite but lively atmosphere that was held yesterday in the television studios of the regional broadcaster Rete8. The four candidates for mayor met: the outgoing Jwan Costantini, Alberta Ortolani, Daniele Di Massimantonio and Romolo Lanciotti, answering the questions of the director of Rete8 Carmine Perantuono. The candidates set out priorities and visions for the future of the city, touching on key issues such as tourism, healthcare and roads.
It was he who opened the dance Jwan Costantini, supported by nine lists (five civic and four from centre-right parties). Underlining that never before had the province of Teramo seen such a broad coalition, he noted how Covid had slowed down administrative action, but he was committed to completing the projects started. Romolo Lanciotti, entrepreneur and representative of the civic center, expressed concern for Giulianova who, in his opinion, is suffering in various areas. His promise is to face these critical issues personally and with determination. It was then the turn of Alberta Ortolani, mayoral candidate for the center-left, supported by the governing Citizen, the Democratic Party and the 5 Star Movement. Ortolani reiterated her link with the progressive and environmentalist world, presenting herself as the voice of sustainable change. You closed the initial interventions Daniele Di Massimantoniothe candidate of the radical left, supported by two lists, who launched an appeal for a clean electoral campaign, focused on programs rather than personal attacks.
TOURISM. On the topic of tourism, Romolo Lanciotti criticized the current management, stating that Giulianova is now overtaken by other resorts on the Teramo coast: «We are third on the podium, with 500,000 visitors». On the contrary, the outgoing mayor defended his actions, claiming that the city has returned to being the capital of hospitality tourism in Abruzzo thanks to seasonally adjusted events and events such as the Frecce tricolori and sports tournaments, and has transformed itself into a point of reference for major musical and religious events. Daniele Di Massimantonio highlighted the lack of strengthening of religious and artistic tourism, while Alberta Ortolani denounced conflicts of interest on the part of some current administrators and candidates, criticizing the “Giulianova tourism” list and asking for greater attention also to other economic sectors.
HEALTH. The topic of hospitals and local healthcare has seen harsh criticism of the outgoing administration. Di Massimantonio accused the mayor of not having adequately defended the interests of the citizens, endorsing the choices of the centre-right parties in the regional healthcare reorganization plan, while Lanciotti complained about the absence of a birth center: «We want our hospital come back to represent the pride of the city,” he said. The centre-left candidate Ortolani called for a first-level hospital on the coast, with the restoration of essential departments such as pediatrics and traumatology, and criticized the management of the Bivio Bellocchio health residence and the clinic. Costantini defended his actions, and that of the centre-right regional government, attributing the responsibility for the impoverishment of services to the former governor D’Alfonso and claiming that the centre-right avoided the closure of the Giulianova hospital by strengthening various departments: «The Marsilio’s arrival ensured that the hospital did not close, in these five years we have opened and strengthened departments. The Lorenzin decree does not provide for a birth center in Giulianova.”
THE ROAD. As regards traffic, both Ortolani and Di Massimantonio insisted on the need for sustainable mobility, with the introduction of electric shuttles connecting Lido and Paese and new cycle paths. Both criticized the installation of the so-called “intelligent” traffic lights, desired by the outgoing administration, and proposed the construction of a roundabout at Bivio Bellocchio. Di Massimantonio also spoke about Zes (“too little has been done”), making a comparison with nearby Mosciano, where an electric car plant will be built. Costantini replied, underlining the doubling of Frecciarossa trains at Giulianova station and the approval of the project for the fourth lot of the Teramo-Mare highway, which involves the construction of two roundabouts.
