The departure is set in Cesenatico tribute to Marco Pantani, the last man in history capable of winning the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France in the same season: to understand the affection that still surrounds the Pirate, 20 years after his death, just think that Even yesterday on the roads of the first stage his name was the most written, shouted, exalted.

The first part of the stage is flat, it runs along the sea, touches Ravenna and then heads towards Faenza where a more moving part begins with two 3rd category Gpm in rapid succession, first the Monticino (2 km at 7.5%) and then the Gallisterna (1.2 km at 12.8%), the symbolic climb of the 2020 Imola World Championship, the climb on which Alaphilippe launched his world championship attack.

On the road leading to Bologna they then face each other the Botteghino Hill of Zocca (category 4, 1.9 km at 6.9%) and then Montecalvo Hill (3rd category, 277 km at 7.7%) after which you will then enter the final circuit to be tackled twice with the Colthe Sanctuary of the Madonna di San Luca (1.9 km at 10.6%). The first passage on the symbolic climb of Bologna will be 31.4 km from the finish line, the second at 13.1 km with the finishing line located in the center of Bologna.
