Born in Pompeii in 1981 Marco Guida – designated for France-Poland, he made his debut well in Portugal-Czech Republic at Euro2024. The Italian referee began his career in 1996 and reached Serie A in 2010, becoming a Fifa referee in 2014. Assisted by assistants Meli and Peretti with the Slovenian Obrenovic IV man and Irrati at the Varthe referee booked two players playing in Serie A: Zalewski and Rabiot, plus Dawidowicz and Swiderski.
France-Poland, the slow motion cases
These are the dubious episodes. First yellow in the 24th minute and it was for Nicola Zalewski, who stopped Mbappé’s counterattack too vehemently, while in the 43rd minute Rabiot was also booked, clearly behind Szymański. In the 54th minute Rabiot loses another ball then uses his arms and commits a foul against Frankowski risking the second yellow card that perhaps was there. In the 55th minute, Guida awarded a penalty to the French team for a foul by Kiwior on Dembelé, without resorting to VAR. Protests from Poland for a penalty denied in the 75th minute after a contact between Upamecano and Swiderski. He drives, well placed, lets play but the foul is there. Irrati calls him back to the VAR and assigns the penalty which Maignan saves from Lewandowski. Guida, however, sees the Milan goalkeeper with his feet far from the line at the moment of Lewandowski’s shot and repeats the shot from 11 meters: the Polish striker doesn’t miss this time. In the 89th minute, yellow for Paweł Dawidowicz, guilty of an elbow on the back by Giroud. In the 93rd minute Swiderski was also booked for a foul on Mbappè who was running at speed. At the end Mbappè asks for a penalty for an intervention by Dawidwicz but Guida lets it go and the VAR does not intervene. France-Poland ends 1-1.
